Men are often given a bad wrap when it comes to style and I don’t believe that’s because men don’t care about how they look. I believe they just need some guidance. Simply knowing what you should and should not do when it comes to style goes a long way. Here’s a list of five common men’s style mistakes you need to avoid to look your very best.
Wearing Clothes That Don’t Fit You Properly
Fit is king. If your clothes fit you well, your outfits will instantly get a boost. Most guys wear clothes that are too big––it’s rarely the opposite. In most cases, your outfit could benefit from sizing down.
I know you’ve seen it. A guy walking around in a suit that fits him perfectly. It looks awesome. It’s likely that you’ve also seen someone wearing a suit that is way too big. Try sizing down or become friends with your local tailor. And just to be clear, fit is crucial in everything––not just suits.
Not Matching Your Leathers
This one is simple but so many people get it wrong. If you’re wearing leather shoes or boots, your belt should match. Brown with brown, black with black. It’s ideal if you can get the same tone of leather but as long as your leathers are close to the same color you’re going to be fine.
This tip is so simple and adds a subtle detail that really pulls your outfits together.
Wearing Too Many Accessories
Accessories are those final details in your outfit. The pieces that add personality and flare to your outfit. They really help you develop a personal style. The problem is, some guys wear way too many accessories.
You don’t need a wrist full of bracelets to look stylish. If anything, it’ll make you appear childish. So you might be asking, “how many accessories should I have then?”
There’s no perfect number of accessories but I would suggest assuming less is more.
Only Wearing “Trendy” Products
It’s fine to pull inspiration from trends but I wouldn’t suggest following them exactly. The reason is fashion trends are largely influenced by fast fashion companies. They merely want you to buy the clothes their marketing is trying to convince you is in right now.
Look for style and grooming brands that sell high-quality pieces that are timeless. You’ll get the most out of your wardrobe this way.
Wearing Wrinkled Clothes
I hate to break it to you guys, but nothing kills your look faster than wrinkled garments. I have some more bad news too––those “non-iron” or “wrinkle-free” shirts aren’t actually wrinkle-free. They’re just made with different fabrics that make them less prone to wrinkling like a traditional shirt.
You need an iron or a steamer and you need to learn how to use it properly. Develop a weekly routine that includes making your closet a priority and your outfits will thank you.
