Hello friends! I am no fashion guru but here I am, talking about fashion. I am just an everyday woman in my mid-twenties. Honestly, wherever you are in your personal journey called life, these items are staple pieces that will follow you throughout.

These pieces are also size inclusive, you don’t have to be a certain size to wear these items confidently. Technically, you can wear anything with enough confidence and you’d rock it.

So sit back and relax as I take you on a short excursion of essential items you will need to have in your wardrobe. The best part … you will be able to see the versatility of each item as well!

A Great Fitting Jean

Raise your hands, how many of you already own a pair of jeans that you LOVE? That’s what I thought, congratulations you have an essential fashion item already! Having a great pair of jeans that fits you well can be dressed up or down.

Not only is it versatile, but your confidence level skyrockets. I don’t know about you, but when I wear my favorite pair of jeans I feel like I own the day. Jeans come in any color of the rainbow too which is incredible and shows your personality that much more!

Sorry Gen Z, my favorite pair of jeans are skinny jeans and forever will be! It doesn’t have to be a specific color, wash, style you need to have. Personally, I like a darker wash with no holes/markings on it. To me, they go with literally anything that I own so sitting in a pool of despair trying to come up with an outfit never happens.

Black Blazer Baby

This may come to a shock, but a black blazer is a must regardless of where you are in your life. There’s something about owning a black blazer that makes me feel like a boss and can tackle anything in it. Even if I wear it out on a date night with my husband, my posture is straighter and I feel like I can command a room.

It adds sophistication to any outfit and in the professional world it’s a must. Even though a lot of work environments are becoming more laid back/casual, simply wearing a blazer will help you feel more confident. At least when I wear a blazer to work, I feel like I am someone who knows what they are doing. /p>

Granted, any blazer you wear is a great item, I personally own 4 different blazers. However, having a classic black blazer 1. Goes with (mostly) everything. And 2. In more professional settings, most will have a color dress code you have to follow (more conservative colors like black, grey and navy blue).

Black Pencil Skirt That You Can Walk In

Ah the classic black pencil skirt. Another one of those staple pieces that looks amazing on everybody. My only recommendation is that you find one that you can walk in.

I’m not sure if any of you ever put one on that you had to walk like a penguin because it was vacuum sealed to your thighs? No, just me then heed my warning because it’s not fun. Anywho, back to the reason you should have one.

I am going to shock you, but you can dress them up or down as well *GASP*! I was one of those people who thought pencil skirts were only for corporate attire. Thanks to a wonderful world called Pinterest, I discovered a wonderful world where pencil skirts can be worn in a more professional setting AND out-in-about just willy nilly and it looks incredible!

When I wear a pencil skirt I always get a bit nervous since I have more meat on my body especially from the waist down (you can tell I like burgers and ice cream, ain’t no shame in that). But when I put on my pencil skirt DAAAAAAANG do I feel like a boss and can conquer the world. I remember that my body is beautiful at any size and my pencil skirt loves my curves so I in turn love it back. It also makes a great power couple with my black blazer!

THE Black Dress

I know what you are all thinking, “Taylor, why didn’t you just call it a Little Black Dress like literally every other fashion person?” I am glad you asked! Years ago when I was reading fashion blogs to find out “what my style is” every single one said “LBD: Little Black Dress” and as I mentioned previously, I have some fluff with my body. So to me, wearing a “LBD” wasn’t in the cards because I didn’t feel confident in it.

That’s why I’m making it THE Black Dress, find one that you feel confident in and that will be your staple piece. This dress can literally be the answer to “what should I wear?!”. Got a date night? Wear THE Black Dress. Going out shopping? THE Black Dress. Going to a wedding (casual or fancy)? THE Black Dress.

The possibilities are endless. Black is just one of those classic colors that looks amazing on everyone and goes for any event, professional, black tie (not because it’s in the name or anything) or casual.

A Crisp White Dress Shirt

Last, but certainly not least, a white dress shirt is a MUST. I was a skeptic on this item when I first heard about it. But Taylor, white shirts are so “corporate” or I only use my white shirt for interviews. Ironically, my white shirt moment came when I was going for an in person interview.

I knew it was an interview staple, especially for a company that is more conservative. So, I bit the bullet and bought one before my interview and let me tell you it changed my life. I tried it on at home (because online ordering is now my norm thank you COVID!) and I looked at myself in the mirror and it clicked why you should have one.

It was like the missing puzzle piece in my wardrobe. The heavens broke open with a celestial choir of angels singing. Ok, that was an exaggeration, but it looks so great with a suit. Classic it may be, but you can see why it has stayed through the decades.

Not only does it look great for professional looks, it looks great with a great fitting pair of jeans (again I told you I would show you versatility). And yes, I would argue that even before Memorial Day and After Labor Day you can still rock the white dress shirt. I think it being deemed a classic gives it pardon during the “off season.”
